TO THE PRIDE
Since 2002, the Hofstra Roller Hockey Club has given hundreds of students the opportunity to play competitive, travel, intercollegiate roller hockey. With a focus on personal growth, team building, and experience, the club allows players of all skill levels the chance to be an intercollegiate athlete.
JOIN THE PRIDE
The Hofstra Roller Hockey Club is looking for players for the 2020-2021 season. We are a co-ed, intercollegiate, travel team that has been around for nearly two decades. Our region includes teams like Boston U, Cornell, Vermont, Syracuse, and Cortland, and we travel around the northeast for games playing schools from all around the northeast and beyond. The 2021 national championships are in Fort Myers, FL, and we fully anticipate being there, competing for a title. We have had a long history of traveling all over the country- Colorado, SoCal, San Jose, Detroit, North Carolina, St. Louis, and southern Florida have all seen the Pride come through, and we have even more in store for the upcoming season.
While we area competitive program, we are looking for players of all backgrounds and experience levels. For anyone that has only played ice hockey before, we have a number of players that played high school and college ice hockey, and all have easily made the transition to roller. The list is long, and constantly growing, of NHL and other pro ice hockey players that grew up playing competitive roller hockey.
We also help organize and run the annual St. Baldrick's event on campus, supporting childhood cancer research efforts. This university-wide event was brought to Hofstra by one of our former players, and we've kept the tradition going strong.
If you are interested in being a part of the program- as a player, statistician, equipment manager, photographer, videographer, social media manager, web developer, or just want to lead our fan group, reach out to us by using the form on the bottom of this page. We hope to see you out there with us during the 2020-2021 season.
The club practices and plays at some of the most prominent roller hockey facilities in the region, and combine team practices, individual skill sessions, off-rink conditioning, and video work.
AN EXPERT IN
ANYTHING WAS ONCE A
Brought to the campus by Hofstra Roller Hockey alum Tom Kostiw in 2009, the club has helped organize, promote, and run the annual St. Baldrick's Foundation event ever since. The St. Baldrick's Foundation started in Manhattan in 1999, with the goal of raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer treatment.
More than just a fundraiser, St. Baldrick's implores its participants to shave their heads in solidarity with those who typically lose their hair during chemotherapy. In that time, dozens of players have joined hundreds of Hofstra students, alumni, faculty, and staff in the annual event in the Student Center, which has now expanded to the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra /Northwell, to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the cause. In partnership with HX Salon, the event is always a sight to see, with men and women alike taking the stage and having their heads buzzed.
